Wonderland - Single
Wonderland's story pretty much follows all of the bad parts of the parable of the prodigal son. It's about being in denial of the fact that everything you thought you wanted is just kind of awful.
I didn't write it after experiencing anything specific. I had a sound in mind that reminded me of Alice in Wonderland, and began to produce. After getting tired of the instrumental, I sat on the beat for a year. One day I was stumbled across it when listening to old projects and immedietly felt convicted to finish it. I was more excited about it than I had ever been, it was like I was listening to it for the first time as a fan as opposed to as the artist.
Writing it sucked. I had the melody and a very specific vision as to what story I wanted to tell, but couldn't find the words for months. I had a 2 hour long class at the time. Every single period I would ignore the lecture and write new verse after new verse for Wonderland until I finally had a collection of options that I was happy with.
I think that the emotions I put into wonderland represent universal experiences that everyone has over and over again throughout life. Maybe it looks like being excited to go camping, but then you get there and are uncomfortable, bored, and itchy, or maybe it looks like having your first drink and realizing that alcohol's a little gross. Maybe it's breaking into a clicky friend group that feels just as awful on the inside as it did on the outside. That's Wonderland. Trying to live life to the fullest, blow up bigger than anyone needs you to be, and in the end, just being sad, itchy, and tired. Sometimes one of the hardest parts of the journey is simply admitting that you were wrong.
